Are you eating your fruits and vegetables every day?

Posted by muscled1 on 18th March 2008

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, the World Health Organization, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion agree – you should eat more fruits and vegetables.

Up to 10 total servings a day!

That’s a lot of food.

And besides having to eat all that food, maybe you don’t love the taste of fruits, vegetables or greens. Or you don’t have time to shop 2-3 times a week to buy fresh fruits, vegetables and greens. And don’t get us started about preparing the food (washing, chopping, peeling, dicing, mincing, steaming, grilling, microwaving, broiling, and baking can be a real pain in the rear!)

If You Can’t Beat Mother Nature, Join Her!

You shouldn’t mess with Mother Nature. Why try and fool the body with synthetic vitamin pills when you can easily provide your body with convenient concentrated nutrients from actual whole foods grown out of the earth? Not nutrients engineered in a lab.

That’s why we created VGF 25+.

The 25 Vegetables, Greens and Fruits nutrient-rich concentrates found in VGF 25 +, which are derived from Nature’s own whole foods, are more easily absorbed and used by your body than a synthetic blend.

PLUS, it contains all seven essential nutrient classes!

1) Phytonutrients

* Occur naturally in fruits and vegetables
* Promote the function of the immune system
* Help fight off viruses as well as reduce inflammation
* Associated with the treatment and/or prevention of cancer and cardiovascular disease

2) Enzymes

* Responsible for metabolic processes that occur within a cell and are necessary for sustaining life
* Assist and play a large role in digestion, energy production, blood coagulation and contraction of muscles

3) Amino Acids

* The basic building blocks of protein
* Absorption of amino acids is essential for your metabolism

4) Essential Fatty Acids

* Reduce the risk of heart disease and some forms of cancer
* Improve mood
* Decrease inflammation

5) Vitamins

* Essential for the normal growth and development of all human beings
* Healthy maintenance of cell tissues and organs
* Help process proteins, carbohydrates and fats required for utilization

6 & 7) Macro and Trace Minerals

* Involved in electrolyte balance of body fluids
* Essential for normal cellular activity
* Provide hardness to bones and teeth

Just take a look at the 25 Whole Food concentrates from some of Nature’s most powerful Vegetables, Fruits and Greens found in ultra-convenient VGF 25+ caplets.

Q: Recently I have been hearing a lot in the media about inflammation. Is there something I can do or take to help reduce inflammation in my body?

A: That’s a great question and it is good that you are hearing more about it! Inflammation is often called the “silent killer”. But remember that there are different types of inflammation. Acute inflammation is necessary for life. For example, when you cut your finger, an inflammatory process is necessary to heal that wound. That is acute inflammation and is good. Chronic inflammation, however, is dangerous and is the underlying issue for many diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and more. You can see why it is important to reduce chronic inflammation; particularly since many of these diseases typically begin to present as we age!

Fortunately, there are many steps you can take to reduce chronic inflammation. Here are 5 tips to get you started to a healthier you…..CLICK HERE

Benefits of EFA’s (Essential Fatty Acids)

Posted by muscled1 on 17th February 2008

In a perfect world, you would be able to get all the omega-3s you need by eating fish. Unfortunately, studies now show that eating fish can potentially expose you to a high degree of contamination with industrial pollutants and toxins like mercury, PCBs, heavy metals and radioactive poisons.

In fact, the FDA and EPA have put out health advisories warning against certain fish and shellfish consumption for young children, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and nursing mothers.

For some time, doctors have recommended you take fish oil to enhance your intake of omega-3 fats.

But there have been drawbacks.

Unfortunately, fish oil is weak in antioxidant content. Not only that, but as you increase your intake of omega-3 essential fatty acids by consuming fish oil, you actually increase your need for more antioxidant protection.

Why? Well, fish oil is very perishable. Antioxidants are necessary to ensure that the fish oil doesn’t oxidize and become rancid inside your body. As we just discussed, oxidation leads to the formation of those unhealthy free radicals.

So, not only do you need to consume additional antioxidants for your health in general, your need for antioxidants actually increases when using fish oil.

Until now, this has been a vexing problem.

Finally, there’s an easy and practical solution - a new marine oil product that solves this dilemma by uniquely and synergistically combining both your critical antioxidants and omega-3s.

It’s called EFA Icon — it contains genuine Neptune krill, which as you’ll see in a moment, is a crucial distinction you need to be aware of — and it has proven far superior in several ways to fish oils.

icon_pic3_box2.jpg

“Not all omega-3 oil products are created equal!”

There is no question that you can benefit from taking a high-quality fish oil.

However, EFA Icon offers clear advantages to fish oil in a number of important ways. You get all the same multi-system health benefits of omega-3-rich fish oil, including crucial EPA and DHA.

Plus genuine Neptune krill oil — which you can be certain you are getting with EFA Icon — is much better absorbed than fish oil.

This means you can take 1/5 the dose and get by with two small capsules rather than ten large ones. The phospholipid binding increases the bioavailability of omega-3s, improves the omega-3 to omega-6 ratio and supports healthy cell membrane functioning.

Superb Antioxidant Protection

EFA Icon contains potent and unique antioxidants, including astaxanthin and a novel marine flavonoid that may protect you from damaging free radicals.

Pollution-Free

Krill are at the bottom of the food chain and collected far from the pristine seas surrounding Antarctica. Because of this, you don’t have to worry about an unsafe accumulation of mercury, PCBs, heavy metals or other toxins.

Safe Processing Method

With EFA Icon, you can be assured you are truly getting oil made from Neptune krill (be very careful of other claims out there!) and that it is processed safely to ensure your health using a special patented process. This cold organic solvent extraction method:

• is free of harmful additives or preservatives
• preserves the biologically useful properties of krill nutrients by avoiding the use of heat in processing
• produces highly stable, safe, bacteria-free products

I would claim that I have some kind of “gift” for this, but to be honest, you and I don’t need to be psychic to make predictions like these.

There are two things you can always count on: (1) Nature’s laws of cause and effect and (2) human nature.

On that basis, here are my 20 fitness predictions for 2008:…..CLICK HERE

Top Vitamins For Body Builders

Top Vitamins For Body Builders
by keishon martin

The water-soluble vitamins (with the exception of vitamin C) are composed entirely of the B and B-complex vitamins,
including Thiamine (B1), Riboflavin (B2), Niacin (B3), Pyridoxine (B6), Folate, Cobalamin (B12), Biotin and Pantothenic Acid.
Because these vitamins are water soluble and thus have difficulty entering fatty tissues, they aren’t stored in the body and
excessive amounts are excreted. And while this means toxicity is generally not a problem, these vitamins must be continually
included in a bodybuilder’s diet.

8 Vital Nutrition Questions

Posted by muscled1 on 30th January 2008

1) True of False: You should be consuming 3-5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.

False. The Recommended Daily Intake of fruits and vegetables is 5-10 servings.

(Follow up question: How many servings do you eat daily?)

2) True or False: Due to the use of industrial strength pesticides and over-farming the nutrient content of fruits and vegetables sold today is decreasing at an alarming rate?

True. This means even if you were to eat 10 servings of fruits and vegetables a day you may still not be getting enough vitamins and minerals in your diet.

3) True or False: Stress, dieting, injury and illness create a greater demand by the body for vitamins and minerals?

True. Lack of proper nutrition places even greater stress on the body which can lead to serious health problems.

4) True or False: Every year there are 14 million cases of preventable heart disease, 1.2 million preventable causes of cancer, more than half a million preventable strokes and 2500 babies are born every year with neural tube defect that could have been prevented by one simple vitamin?

True. Needless to say, nutrition plays a major role in determining our susceptibility to certain diseases.

5) True or False: By improving nutritional practices 89 million dollars could be saved in annual health care costs?

False. Actually, it’s 89 billion. Yes, that’s right, billions - with a B.

6) True or False: The Council for Responsible Nutrition recommends that all health professionals should be providing sound scientific information and should be suggesting a long-term regular use of a vitamin and mineral supplement?

True. The American Dietetic Association suggests similarly in their Dietary Guidelines.

7) True or False: Studies and surveys suggest those that augment their diet with dietary supplements tend to pay more attention to their overall health and nutrition and tend to lead healthier lifestyles as a result?

True. People who follow a sound nutrition plan know that nutritional products and supplements do not take the place of whole food. Rather they know these products “fill in the gaps.”

8. Can a whole food multi-nutrient complex fill in the nutrient “gaps”, optimize function, protect health, and help prevent disease for about $1 a day?

True. When you join Prograde Nutrition’s optional “Fit Club” you can receive our Men’s or Women’s VGF 25+ multi-nutrient complex for about $1 per day. Not only does it contain all seven essential nutrient classes (Men Click here and Women Click Here to learn what they are), it also provides you with the concentrated nutrients from 25 whole food vegetables, greens and fruits.
