What does ‘metabolic syndrome’ mean?
Metabolic syndrome is a condition in which a group of risk factors for cardiovascular disease (heart disease and stroke) and type 2 diabetes occur together.
Although it doesn’t have a universally accepted definition, most health professionals would include the following as the principal components: Abdominal obesity (i.e. excess body fat in the region of the stomach); High blood pressure (also known as ‘hypertension’); Low blood levels of the ‘good’ cholesterol, HDL; High blood levels of the ‘bad’ cholesterol, LDL; High blood levels of triglycerides; and Insulin resistance (that is, an impaired ability of the body’s insulin to handle blood glucose).

Potatoes, Glycemic Index, and “White Foods” - Friend or Foe for a Lean-Body?
by Mike Geary, Certified Nutrition Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer
I’d like to start a little discussion today about carbohydrates… and in particular, “white foods” as well as potatoes. Protein That Stimulates Fat Formation Discovered
Scientists at the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet have discovered a protein that plays a fundamental part in the formation of new fat cells. The protein has a potential use in the treatment of obesity and cachexia (morbid weight loss).
The discovery of the protein, which is called TRAP and which is secreted by immune cells in fat tissue, provides new insights into the chronic fat tissue inflammation that characterises obesity. Using both cell cultures and mice studies, the researchers have shown that TRAP stimulates the formation of new fat cells and can thus precipitate the development of obesity. The results also show that patients with obesity have excessive levels of TRAP.

If you read about the French Paradox, which discusses why the French eat a lot of fatty foods, but are a leaner society than that of the United States. They take their meals very seriously and it is one of the most important times of the day. You will get multiple benefits from this tip. Eating Slow will help your body absorb the food at the right level allowing you to fill up much quicker as it will not provide a tendency for you to OVEREAT!!! The other awesome benefit is that you can spend more time with your family so that you can share the important things in life with each other!!!
